Total Cost of Ownership

  • SEW-EURODRIVE offers a comprehensive energy-saving concept to enable customers to tap all of the available energy-saving potential in drive technology.
  • Solutions that achieve the desired energy savings in one application may lead to higher overall energy consumption in another application. For this reason, the effiDRIVE® energy-saving concept forces a comprehensive review and consistent implementation of all-energy saving factors that come into consideration – for each individual application.
  • Since the requirements for electrical drive technology are determined by its different applications, it is impossible to make a blanket statement about the possible savings potential.

The concept is based on three pillars:

1. Modular energy efficiency system The concept is shaped by the proven modular concept of SEW-EURODRIVE. The components contained in the modular energy-saving system are optimized, taking both energy consumption and efficiency into account. The energy-saving properties of the individual components are considered as early as the development, according to the specific requirements of the application.
2. Energy consulting Energy consulting is the primary service in the SEW-EURODRIVE energy-saving concept.
Customer-specific consulting is absolutely necessary to determine the individual requirements for the industry and application and to find the optimal energy-saving solution. This applies to both existing systems and new systems that are yet to be developed.
3. Energy-saving solution Within the effiDRIVE® concept, the energy-efficient solutions represent the measurable result for the customer. Working closely together with the customer, SEW-EURODRIVE consultants develop the optimal solution. Drawing upon an extensive wealth of experience, they come up with energy-saving solutions which have already been successfully implemented and tested.
  • Inverter energy efficiency
  • The optimal drive solution for every application from simple speed selection to dynamic positioning.
      • Compact design with complete range of functions
      • Economical choice for standard tasks
      • Large range of basic functions and a broad spectrum of options
      • Economical choice for sophisticated systems
      • Range of functions suited to simple applications
Process adaptation
  • Infinitely variable control of speed and torque allows almost every process to be adapted to the actual demand, making it more energy-efficient. Depending on the application, energy savings of up to 70% can be achieved.
  • Further saving potentials can be tapped in drive tasks with cyclical acceleration and deceleration by implementing energy-efficient motion sequences; maximum acceleration, speed and deceleration are not always necessary.
Energy-saving function
  • The energy-saving function of MOVITRAC® B and MOVIDRIVE® B is particularly advantageous if the application must be operated in the partial load range, and if dynamic properties are not a main requirement when load changes occur.
  • The dynamic adjustment of the magnetization current enables the motor to be operated with optimum efficiency in every operating point. Energy consumption is reduced by up to 30% depending on the application.
  • The energy-saving function ensures optimum efficiency of the drive, especially in conjunction with an energy-efficient motor.
DC link connection
  • By connecting the DC links of several inverters, the regenerative energy of one drive can be used directly as motive energy in another drive.
  • This measure can reduce energy consumption from the supply system if the drive sequences are segmented and suitable travel profiles have been selected.
  • MOVI-PLC®: In storage and retrieval systems, the decentralized control guarantees intelligent control of the travel profile as well as optimal energy coupling.
Regenerative power supply
  • A regenerative power unit feeds the regenerative energy of a drive back into the supply system.
  • The braking energy that is released is not dissipated via braking resistors but fed back into the supply system, which saves energy.
  • This is especially suitable for hoists that convey downwards.
Thermally-controlled fans
  • The fans are switched on only when actual waste heat is generated. Not only does this lower energy consumption; it also increases the service life of the fan.
